Another lazy sleep in day - it seems that we keep getting up around 8am and get to breakfast at 9am. I had a lovely eggs Benedict for breakfast and they do such a nice job of eggs on this ship.

After breakfast, we headed up to take part in the Brainbuster Trivia. We joined a group of four other ladies, but then one of the regulars showed up so Mike graciously moved out of the group (he had a book to read and so he was happy to do that). We ended up getting 14 out of 20 - 5 of the questions were about sports and we ladies were hopeless with those questions - mind you, not one of them was about hockey, so I didn’t feel so bad about not being able to answer any of them.

At 11:15am they held the “Crossing the Equator Ceremony” which was held at the main pool. It started with a procession led by King Neptune (Romeo) and his Queen (Boogie dressed up) and they were followed by their court. When they were seated on their ‘thrones’ (deck chairs), they held a court and charged certain people (passengers and crew) with various crimes. Once charged, King Neptune would ask the jurors (passengers) whether they thought the ‘criminals’ were guilty or not guilty. They were all found guilty. Their punishment was to be slimed with ketchup, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, mustard, whipped cream, raw eggs, etc. Then they had to ‘kiss the fish’. Then they were thrown into the pool. At the end of the ceremony, they slimed the members of the crew who were pollywogs (someone who has not crossed the equator before) and threw them in the pool and then they invited any passengers who were pollywogs to do the same. Believe it or not, there were quite a few who volunteered to do this.

We weren’t that hungry for lunch and so we decided to partake of a slice of pizza and then we went up on deck and found a nice shady place to sit and relax and read our books. We stayed up there for quite a long time and it was very enjoyable to be out in the fresh air and read.

For dinner tonight, I had a lovely lamb meal and Mike had lobster thermidore which he said was really delicious. I have been having soup at almost every supper and tonight I had the tomato and as always it was so tasty.

After dinner, it was off to the show which tonight was “Words and Music”. It was a song and dance night of music and singing from Broadway musicals. However, most of the songs were from shows ‘before our time’ and so we didn’t know many of the songs that were sung. The dancing and singing shows are okay - we haven’t yet found a ship that has good shows of this kind. It could be that they don’t have much time to prepare or just that the cruise ships aren’t able to attract seasoned professionals. But it is something to do to pass the time in the evenings.

We stayed out late tonight and attended the show of “Princess Popstar”. It’s a take-off of ‘American Idol’ (karaoke style). All but one of the performers were seniors and so they sang songs of the era that they had grown up in - there were three men who sang Frank Sinatra songs, for example. We, the audience, were the judges and had to grade each singers on stage presence, vocal ability and star quality. There weren’t any horrible singers, but there were a few who should not quit their day jobs. :-)  We had to choose two singers who we thought did the best job and those two were agreed to by the whole crowd there and so they will go on to the finals which will be held later in the cruise.
