Happy 30th Anniversary to us!!! We woke up this morning and there were three balloons outside our door with “Happy Anniversary” written on them. :-) Our room steward, Homer, did that for us. We actually spent the first part of our day sleeping in - we woke up with a start when the captain announced a crew drill (which we knew would be happening) at 9:45am! Lazy, eh? :-) And we kept lazing about until noon when we went upstairs to eat lunch (yep, we totally missed breakfast)!

Right after we were finished lunch it was time to get to the pier to board our bus for our tour in Christchurch. Turns out that we are actually docked in a little place called Lyttleton which is actually 13km from Christchurch. Our bus driver, Murray, was very informative and gave us a great tour of this lovely city. New Zealand really is as beautiful as people told us it was. It rains a lot and so it is a very green country. After taking us on a tour of the city, Murray stopped the bus downtown and we were given almost two hours to walk around. We went to a museum (really interesting stuff there and we barely touched what they had to offer), the botanical gardens (the most vibrant flowers I have ever seen are there), the arts centre (various rooms with artisans and their products available for sale) and the art gallery (very small exhibits available to be seen right now but I love art galleries). After that, it was time to return to the bus and time to return to the ship.

After a little relaxing in the room (with our soft serve ice-cream, of course :-), we got dressed for dinner. We had been given a note this morning to let them know in the dining room that it was our anniversary which we took with us to dinner. We ended up sitting with a couple from the U.S. who we had once sat with and our friends, Janet and John, just happened to be seated at our table which was really nice. Mike and I both celebrated our anniversary by having a lovely steak dinner - mmmm! After our main course, the waiters brought us a lovely chocolate cake and sang ‘Happy Anniversary’ to us - it was so neat although Mike said his face was red while they were singing to us. :-) But I loved it - and it was neat, too, since John videoed it and we also have one where the waiters sang to us on our 10th wedding anniversary which we were also on a cruise for.

After dinner, we went to the Princess Theatre - they were showing a movie and although we really weren’t interested in seeing the movie, there was a crew talent show afterwards and we figured that if we didn’t get a seat for the movie, we would be hard pressed to find one afterwards when the talent show would be on.

The talent show was really good. A number of the crew did a variety of talents - magic, singing, dancing, musician, jugglers, and the cruise staff (entertainment) did a few crazy skits which were really funny. It’s great having such a fun time like this. Oh, and before the show started, the cruise staff handed out balloons which we were asked to blow up and then we began batting them around the theatre. You would think we were a bunch of kids, but it was a lot of fun and there was a lot of laughing going on! :-)
